Rustic Barn Wedding at Kitz Farm, Seacoast NH
Rustic barn wedding? Yes, it’s nothing new, but for Adrienne and Morgan it’s no trend. The couple recently graduated from the University of New Hampshire (UNH). Adrienne grew up in the far northern region of New Hampshire, the type of girl who is more comfortable with a chain saw than a curling iron.
Morgan grew up in Barrington, NH a decendant of the Mayflower (who says that!) and studied environmental engineering. Most recently, he is the proud new owner of our favorite car, the Prius!
Where did they meet? In a barn. Seriously. Both were working at UNH’s Woodman Farm. It wasn’t long before they were tending a community garden plot at Wagon Hill Farm and living together in Durham while completing their degrees.
So, it was no surprise that they would choose a barn venue for their wedding, assigning roles to friends and family for a true DIY masterpiece. In fact, we wouldn’t have been surprised if they told us they had helped farm owner, George Kitz, disassemble the wedding barn from its original home moving it to Strafford and piecing it back together.
Adrienne’s dad not only walked her down the aisle, but brought her to the ceremony location in an antique ’47 Plymouth Special Deluxe at the top of the hill overlooking a pond surrounded by willow trees.
The couple describes themselves as “dorky and goofy.” And while we love their quirks, it’s easy to see far beyond that to two incredibly intelligent and compassionate individuals with great admiration, mutual respect and wisdom beyond their years.
Surrounded by their family and friends, the beauty of the farm, and a warm July sun Adrienne and Morgan were joined by Aunt Nancy to share handwritten vows and… paused to take a selfie!
There was nothing fabricated about this wedding. Everything fit together like it was made for Adrienne and Morgan. Their love of the outdoors was felt with every detail, from the peach studded flowers Adrienne’s mom made to the milk buckets and hand drawn signs.
Surrounded by such beauty, we could have played all day wandering the farm grounds and taking pictures. The love between Adrienne and her new husband was as natural as the summer breeze, delighting those around them, infectious with energy and warmth.
From the hill we could hear the sounds of laughter and joy echoing from the barn as cocktails were under way and anticipation for the couple’s entrance grew.
Every last detail was a reflection of Adrienne and Morgan’s values, from the biodegradable dinnerware, farm to table buffet, freshly picked berry centerpieces, family produced honey jars, and cake table entirely baked by best friend Erin.
And so the evening began, with bench seating hosting new friendships, a cake cutting to initiate the dessert buffet and the tunes of a live band charging the air with energy as the sunlight dwindled.
Picklebacks were the shot of the night, an ounce of bourbon chased by pickle brine (which gave the air an interesting smell!) The drink was Adrienne’s choice, a part of her life up North. However, we did see some less adventurous types slinging the pickle juice over their shoulder rather than down the gullet!
There was no garter belt toss, no massive muti-tiered cake, no white-gloved servers attending to guests, but far from a shortage of elegance, beauty and palpable love which gave the day more riches than can be bought.
To a couple we admire and are blessed to call friends, thank you for showing us how love can create such brilliance, pure smiles and simplistic happiness. Congratulations!
